HotelsRIO grants “Carioca da Gema” title to foreign hoteliers

The world embraces the Carioca and the Carioca embraces the world! And to symbolize “that hug!” from cariocas to beloved “gringo” hoteliers, HotéisRIO has just created the title “Hoteleiro Carioca da Gema”, in honor of the expatriate executives who, after spending periods in the city, appropriate the carioca lifestyle, taking the flag of Rio to beyond borders.

The first foreign hotelier to receive the affectionate title was Frenchman Laurent Ebzant, who held the position of general manager of the Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro for three years, after long experience that includes hotels in Europe and Africa. The executive, who leaves Rio this year to take over the Park Hyatt New York, received a diploma created by HotéisRIO to take the title of Hotelier Carioca da Gema to the world. The delivery took place on the 27th, at the Grand Hyatt, during a meeting that marked the farewell of Laurent Ebzant and the welcome of the new general manager, Alexandra Bueno.

“Cariocas have this unifying spirit, they make friends with the waiter, they get involved in other people's conversations to give information, they become childhood friends with newly-acquainted people and they are more concerned with having fun than competing. This undoubtedly influences our way of receiving. It enchants visitors and converts our foreign hoteliers into true locals from Rio, who become multipliers of Rio tourism around the world. We are sure that our friend Laurent, our marathon runner from Rio, will come back with an accent like the “x” and, in addition to the Hawaiian ones, will take with him a little bit of bohemia and the joy of being from Rio”, comments the president of HotéisRIO and creator of tribute, Alfredo Lopes.

You can't miss the caipirinha and feijoada to gather friends, the flip-flops and coat to face the cold days, the globo biscuit and mate to enjoy the beach, the carioca and the hospitality to make Rio the biggest gateway to foreign tourists in the country. These doubles, which are a “perfect match”, symbolize the true lifestyle from Rio de Janeiro, recognized throughout Brazil for being hospitable and happy people.
