Latam adopts migration of flights from Santos Dumont to RIOgaleão

To adapt to the restrictions imposed by the Ministry of Ports and Airports, The Latam Brazil has already implemented a reduction in flights departing from the airport Santos Dunont (SDU). The initiative, which comes into effect in the second half of this year, aims to increase the number of operations in the Tom Jobim International Airport (RIOgaleão).

In a conference held on Wednesday night (2), the company's CEO, Jerome Cadier, said that operations at SDU will be reduced by 30% compared to the first half of 2023.

Latam Brasil has already migrated some flights to Galeão, but at a lower rate than operations departing from Santos Dumont. According to Jerome Cadier, the increase in flights at Galeão will depend on the dynamics of the national economy this semester.

How the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro studies reducing the ICMS rate on aviation fuel, Latam's move could increase the number of flights at the Latam terminal Governor Island, at North Zone of Rio. The measure has already been adopted by other states of the federation with success in opening new routes. The ICMS reduction still needs to be approved by local government bodies.
