Almost two thirds (62%) of Rio's hotel rooms are already booked for Carnival. The official festivities begin on March 2nd, Carnival Saturday.

50 days before Carnival, SindHotéis Rio carried out the first calculation with the hotel occupancy forecast for the date. Last year, with the same advance notice, the reservation index was still around 40%.

“In view of the excellent results of New Year's Eve and the strong demand, our expectation is to exceed the 86% registered last year”, declares Alfredo Lopes, president of SindHotéis Rio.

The Centro region is among the most sought after, with an average of 71%, followed by Leme/Copacabana with 70%; Flamengo/Botafogo with 58%; Bar/Recreio with 52%; and Ipanema/Leblon with 51%.

The largest portion of demand from national visitors is from São Paulo and Minas Gerais. Among foreigners, the highest rate of reservations so far is from South Americans and North Americans.
