Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro has a Christmas tree signed by Nespresso

Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro, urban resort located between Praia da Barra da Tijuca and Lagoa de Marapendi, and the Nespresso, a leading brand in sustainable, high-quality portioned coffees, have come together in an action that goes far beyond evoking the Christmas spirit. With the aim of raising awareness about the importance of recycling and reusing materials, the Nespresso created a Christmas tree decorated with reused coffee capsules, which will be located in the lobby of the Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro until January 2024.

The tree, which is 1.80 m in diameter and 2.50 m high, uses almost 600 capsules in its decoration, which alternate between the Original and Vertuo lines, which replace the Christmas balls and adorn the LED string.

Concern for sustainability is part of the DNA of both companies. O Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro promotes a series of actions every year, such as collecting trash on the beach, donating mattresses and pillows to institutions, in addition to continually working on its environmental performance. The resort also prioritizes locally sourced inputs in order to promote and strengthen the region's economy.

"At the Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro We want to celebrate all the magic of Christmas by bringing together elements that are important to us. We are committed to advancing sustainability actions not only within the hotel, but also in our community. Therefore, we could not leave the proposal out of our Christmas decoration, which brings authenticity and care, as well as hope and optimism for the future by using recycled materials to delight our guests”, he explained. Alexandra Bueno, General Manager of the Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro.

At Nespresso, all capsules collected through collection points, reverse logistics or postal service are sent to the company's Recycling Center, where the coffee grounds and aluminum are mechanically separated, without the use of water in the process. While the coffee grounds are destined for the project Nespresso Vegetable Gardens, which uses organic waste as fertilizer to grow organic food in a regenerative way and provides specialized technical consultancy for farmers, the aluminum is destined for the steel industry, returning to its life cycle in various forms, such as pens, electrical material, framing pieces and even new coffee capsules, etc. Recycled aluminum requires 95% less energy to produce compared to virgin aluminum, contributing to a significant reduction in the carbon footprint.

“We want to provide unique experiences to our customers and partners, so it is a great honor to support the construction of a Christmas tree with capsules Nespresso. We have a strong commitment to society and we seek partners who embrace the cause of sustainability, helping us to enable actions that promote circularity”, he states Fernanda Gobbo, Sustainability Coordinator at Nespresso Brasil.
