In its 18th edition, the Corintho Falcão awards are dedicated to recognizing social actions and honoring bankers, travel agents, businessmen, lawyers, mill owners and hoteliers.

Two hotels in Copacabana had their projects chosen in the category: Hotel Hilton Copacabana took first place and the Fairmont Rio de Janeiro took second place.

Discover the award-winning cases:

Pride in Afro culture – The Hilton Copacabana Hotel, first placed in the category, supported the Pretonomia project, whose name is a neologism created to highlight the importance of black and brown people and their cuisine. Created by the professor of Gastronomy at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Breno Cruz, the project aims to revive the relevance of the ancestry of these people through the visibility of inputs, preparations and recipes with African influences, in addition to empowering black and brown people to work in the gastronomy area.

The Hilton Hotel's participation was through qualification for 20 black or mixed race people from Rio de Janeiro. The topics covered in the training, carried out in 20 modules, with a total of 41 hours, were selected by chef Pablo Ferreyra, from the Hilton restaurant, with the UFRJ extension students in a conversation circle. During the learning process, subjects related to the areas of Citizenship Training, Management and Cooking were discussed.

Pretonomia also works with the Public Ministry of Labor – Rio de Janeiro Regional to promote actions that help combat racism and encourage the hiring of black and brown people.

Social responsibility as a priority – The Fairmont Rio de Janeiro, in Copacabana, in second place in the category, has among its main values the support of independent social actions. At the moment, there are seven, which involve everything from treating illnesses to food for those who are hungry.

In partnership with Make-a-wish Brasil, the hotel serves children facing serious illnesses. For them, the hotel organized two parties – one for June and one for Christmas. He also held a charity brunch to raise funds for the institution.

With the Ronald Mc Donald Institute, which offers treatment, accommodation, transportation and food for children with oncological diseases and their families, a partnership was agreed to raise funds and offer services. In July, the hotel sponsored a charity Golf Tournament for the institute, which raised enough funds to maintain the operation of the 7 units of the Casa Ronald McDonald Program.

Fairmont also contributes to the startup Comida Invisível, donating food that was not consumed by guests to be distributed to registered institutions that pass on to people in situations of food insecurity.

Another project that the hotel participates in is “Jovem na Pesca”. The NGO has a project, in the Z-13 Fisherman's Colony, that prepares young people to work in fishing. In this action, the hotel purchases and offers breakfast to members.

Fairmont also supports three initiatives that encourage the hiring of transgender people, those with hearing impairments and refugees: the Transgarçonne project, an extension program at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) that aims to strengthen the life and work history of transgender people. The hotel holds meetings and periodically selects staff with those appointed by the project – today there are people on staff who came through Transgarçonne.

In the area of human resources, the hotel supports the National Institute of Education for the Deaf (INES). The enterprise receives students' CVs to hire PCDs. In the case of the SOS Children's Villages project, which welcomes Venezuelan refugees and helps with placement in the job market, a team from the hotel was at the NGO's headquarters and made a selection for the project's staff.
