RIO DE JANEIRO - The already traditional and well-known Rio hotel industry awards brought together more than 200 professionals this Tuesday (26), at the Rio Othon Palace Hotel, to present the Top Hotel RJ 2019. A realization of ABIH-RJ and Hotéis Rio, the award aims to recognize the investments and success stories of hotels across the state, with emphasis this year on Accor, Grand Hyatt and Windsor, chains already consolidated in the market.

The Rio de Janeiro hotel industry awards reached their 16th edition with a small change. As is already the practice, ABIH-RJ and SindHotéis presented the four famous awards: Corintho Falcão (Social Action); Eduardo Tapajós (Entrepreneurship), Green Seal and Hotel Expansion. But, from this year onwards, with the official union of the two entities to hold the event, the award was renamed Top Hotel RJ 2019.

“Throughout the year, as a result of many struggles and commitment, it was possible to measure, in every month, occupancy rates higher than those of the previous year. And we also identified a slight increase in the daily rate”, says the president of ABIH-RJ about 2019.

Among the awarded hotels are: Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro, Windsor Guanabara and Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana, all in the city of Rio. Grand Hyatt immediately won two awards: Social Action, for the “Global Service Month” project, and the Green Seal for Hospitality, with the “Confete Amigo” project during Carnival. Windsor, in turn, reopened Salão Velazquez, in Barra da Tijuca, and won the Entrepreneurship award. The winner of the Expansão Hoteleira award could not be anyone else: Accor with the opening of the Fairmont Copacabana.

The host and president of ABIH-RJ and Hotéis Rio, Alfredo Lopes, took stock of what the Rio hotel industry went through this year. “Throughout the year, as a result of many struggles and commitment, it was possible to measure, in every month, occupancy rates higher than those of the previous year. And we also identified a slight increase in the daily rate. Of course, it’s still not ideal, but the curve is rising, so let’s be optimistic,” he revealed. “The year 2019 also marked an increase in the number of events in the city. The second semester, in particular, presented a much busier schedule. And expectations for New Year’s Eve and Carnival are excellent”, added Alfredo.

Alfredo Lopes also thanked the hoteliers for their efforts in setting up the Daily Rates Bank, announced in October by the Rio de Janeiro Tourism Secretariat itself, recalled the reduction in ICMS on QAV and highlighted the hotel movement throughout the city. In recent months we have seen the reopening of some iconic hotels in our city, such as Nacional and Fairmont. And the beginning of works on the Marina Palace. These are important reflections of the recovery of the hotel industry”, concluded the president of ABIH-RJ.

Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro, with the “Confete Amigo” project, ended up surpassing the “Aqua Project” at the Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana and took the Hotel Green Seal award. The unit won because in February of this year, tourists who stayed during Carnival received bags of “Friendly Confete”,

The idea was to use the leaves that already fall from the trees and pierce them manually, making them similar to confetti made from paper and which contribute to tons of dirt during the festivities.
