Rio de Janeiro is among the 3 most popular destinations for the Corpus Christi holiday

The Corpus Christi holiday, celebrated next Thursday (30.05), promises to boost tourism in several Brazilian capitals. According to a survey by travel website KAYAK, São Paulo (SP), Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Recife (PE) stand out among the most popular national destinations to enjoy the period, when time off - often extended - allows you to discover a little more of the varied Brazilian attractions.

Other locations in the country also appear in the ranking. This is the case of Salvador (BA), Fortaleza (CE) and Maceió (AL), known for offering sun, beach, culture and history alternatives. The data also indicates the interest in cities far from the sea, such as, in addition to the capital of São Paulo, Belo Horizonte (MG) and Brasília (DF), showing that the desire of tourists inclined to hit the road is not limited to the virtues of Brazil's rich coastline.

The KAYAK survey considers searches carried out on the website in Brazil between January 8th of this year and May 5th, 2024. The planned travel dates refer to the period from May 30th to June 2nd. The calculation promoted by the portal takes into account round-trip flights in economy class, departing from or going to all terminals in the national territory.

The holiday season tends to keep the country's airline market buoyant, which shows positive indicators. Figures from the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) indicate that, in April this year, 7.2 million passengers traveled in Brazil on board domestic flights, a quantity 3.7% higher than in the same month of 2023. The total number of seats offered in aircraft (10 million) it followed the increase: it grew 6.1% compared to April last year.

IMPULSE – The Ministry of Tourism works to encourage Brazilians to travel more around the country. One of the actions is “Get to Know Brazil: Flying”, a partnership with the Ministry of Ports and Airports, the Brazilian Association of Airlines (ABEAR) and the main companies in the sector. The program involves offering “stopovers”, sticking planes with images of national destinations and broadcasting audio on planes, encouraging visits to attractions in the country.

“Get to know Brazil: Realize” allows Banco do Brasil account holders access to a line of credit aimed at purchasing tourist services, based on different conditions. MTur’s work also encompasses “Get to Know Brazil: Civic”. The initiative, which motivates students, teachers and researchers to visit destinations connected to Brazilian history, has a pilot project developed in Brasília (DF) and cities surrounding the federal capital.

RIO GRANDE DO SUL – To encourage Brazilians to reschedule visits to Rio Grande do Sul on other dates, instead of cancelling, MTur is developing the “Don’t Cancel, Reschedule” campaign. It is important to inform that flights already purchased with a final destination in the state, affected by heavy rain, can be rescheduled without extra fees, with the right to a full refund. The ANAC rule lasts up to one year from the original date of purchase,
