Book Biennial confirms international authors, event will be held in December

The acclaimed Portuguese writer Valter Hugo Mother is one of the international names confirmed for the 20th edition of the Rio Book Biennial, the largest culture and literature festival in the country. The author will come to Brazil to participate in the event, which takes place between the 3rd and 12th of December this year, at Riocentro.

Valter Hugo has just released his eighth novel in Portugal: “As Diseases of Brazil”, a story of adventure, resistance and the search for peace. He will participate in a session at the table “The nation in language”, on literature and diversity

This year's program also features Argentine writer Mariana Enriquez, who recently released the fantastic novel “Our Night Part”, a work that is already being compared to “One Hundred Years of Solitude”, by Gabriel García Márquez.

Another confirmation is the Japanese manga master Junji Ito, specialist in horror stories. As the Book Biennial will adopt a hybrid model, starting this year, he will have an online presence, as will Matt Ruff, North American author of thrillers and comic books, such as Lovecraft Country, adapted by HBO into a TV series.

Also participating in the event are: period romance writer Julia Quinn, author of “Bridgerton”, released in series format by Netflix; the American author of historical and contemporary romances Beverly Jenkins; and Josh Malerman, the author of “Bird Box”, a film adapted with Sandra Bullock, who appears at the Biennale for the second year in a row.
