Crivella meets with ABIH-RJ and the economic sector to discuss measures against Coronavirus

The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Crivella, met this Thursday (19/03) with representatives from sectors of Rio's economy to discuss the impacts of measures against the spread of coronavirus in different sectors. Concern about falling revenues – and the consequent financial asphyxiation of companies – was the main topic discussed at the meeting held in Cidade das Artes.
After receiving requests for support from the municipal executive branch to the economic sector, the mayor promised to take the requests to the crisis office to study them with his secretaries. Crivella also said that he is in contact with the National Treasury to discuss financial compensation to help the municipality face the pandemic and again stated that it is necessary to maintain a level of economic activity so that society does not have more serious collateral problems.
– Your proposals were noted and we will take them to our crisis office. This action also depends on being aligned with the Federal Government. We want to keep all sectors functioning. The problem now is crowding. This is the main breach of our safeguard. We are preparing ourselves and I have faith in God that we will overcome this crisis and come out of it much stronger – said the mayor.
The meeting was attended by representatives of: Rio Convention Bureau, Brazilian Association of Travel Agents (ABAV/RJ), Brazilian Association of the Hotel Industry (ABIH/RJ), Brazilian Association of Event Companies (ABEOC/RJ), Bar Union and Restaurants of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro (Sindrio), Brazilian Federation of Accommodation and Food (FBHA), Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants (Abrasel), Association of Event Promoters in the Entertainment and Related Sector (Apresenta Rio), Riogaleão, Association of Supermarkets of the State of Rio de Janeiro (ASSERJ), Roda Gigante, RIO HOST (Association of Hostels), Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Fecomércio), Trade Shopkeepers Union of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro (Sindlojas), Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan), Brazilian Association of Travel Agents and Brazilian Federation of Accommodation and Food).
